How NeoGen Resurfacing Improves Skin Health

The most meaningful changes in your skin do not happen on the surface. Here is what NeoGen does at the cellular level, and why that matters more than any cream.

When you think about skin care, you probably picture serums and creams. But the changes that actually last happen much deeper, in the layer where your skin rebuilds its own structure. That is where NeoGen Plasma Skin Regeneration works, and it is why I treat it as a skin health treatment rather than a cosmetic one.

At Good Skin Aesthetics in Loomis, NeoGen is my signature treatment because it works with your skin's own biology instead of against it. The results speak for themselves, but understanding what is happening underneath changes how you think about the whole thing.

How Your Skin Rebuilds Itself

Your skin is alive and constantly renewing. It breaks down old cells and builds new ones every single day. Collagen and elastin, the two proteins that give your skin its firmness and its bounce, are part of that cycle.

Over time the cycle slows. Collagen and elastin start breaking down faster than your body replaces them. The structure underneath gets thinner and weaker, and you see the result on the surface: fine lines deepen, texture turns uneven, and the skin starts to look tired even when you are not.

A cream sits on top of that. It can hydrate, protect, and support what you already have, and a good routine genuinely matters. But no topical product reaches the layer where the structural loss is actually happening.

What Plasma Energy Actually Does

The handpiece converts nitrogen gas into plasma energy, delivering heat into the skin without ever breaking the surface open.

NeoGen uses nitrogen plasma energy to create controlled micro-injuries beneath the surface of your skin. The word injury sounds alarming, so it is worth being precise about what that means.

This is not damage in the harmful sense. It is a stimulus, delivered at a dose and depth I choose, that your skin recognizes as a signal to repair itself. The outer layer stays intact and acts as a natural dressing while the rebuilding happens underneath. That is a meaningful difference from treatments that remove the surface entirely.

Your skin is not being damaged. It is being asked to rebuild.

The Repair Response

The structural work happens in the dermis, well below where any topical product can reach.

When your skin registers the stimulus, it activates its natural healing response. Fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin, switch on. New collagen begins to form. Elastin rebuilds. The skin's supporting structure strengthens from within.

What makes this different from a quick fix is that it does not stop when you leave. The regeneration continues for months afterward, which means the treatment you had in spring is still working in autumn.

Non-ablative resurfacing works this way by design. Rather than stripping tissue away and waiting for the skin to close the gap, it prompts the skin to build new tissue while the existing surface stays protected. That is cellular renewal rather than surface correction, and it is the reason the improvement holds.

Why This Matters for Skin Health

It is easy to judge a treatment purely on whether it softens wrinkles or smooths texture. Both of those do happen with NeoGen. But the more important thing is happening at the cellular level.

When your skin rebuilds collagen and elastin, it is not just smoothing out the lines you have today. It is becoming stronger and more resilient for what comes next. Skin with more collagen supports itself better, holds moisture better, and defends itself better against daily environmental stress.

The Difference That Matters

Most cosmetic treatments improve how your skin looks. This one improves how your skin works. The appearance follows from that, rather than the other way around.

What NeoGen Addresses

Because the treatment works on the foundation rather than on one isolated symptom, it improves several things at once:

  • Fine lines and deeper wrinkles improve as the skin regains structural support
  • Loose or crepey skin tightens as collagen and elastin are restored
  • Uneven texture and tone smooth out as healthy new cells replace damaged ones
  • Sunspots and pigmentation fade as the skin regenerates through the affected layers
  • Acne scars and surgical scars respond because the treatment is genuinely rebuilding tissue
  • Heavy or drooping eyelid skin tightens, which is a non-surgical option for an area very few treatments can reach

This is a skin-first approach. Instead of filling a line or relaxing a muscle, I am asking your skin to become healthier and letting the appearance follow.

The Treatment Experience

The NeoGen plasma skin regeneration system used at Good Skin Aesthetics in Loomis, California
Adjustable energy settings are what let one system serve everything from a gentle refresh to full correction.

A session takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on how much area we are treating and how your plan is built. I am a Registered Nurse with more than 15 years in medical aesthetics, and I take the time to evaluate your skin properly and understand what matters most to you before anything is switched on. Every treatment is tailored. There is no standard setting here.

The system uses adjustable energy levels, so the intensity is matched to your skin type and your concerns rather than to a default. I am the first and only NeoGen provider in Northern California, which means I have spent a long time with this specific technology and know how to use it safely across all skin tones.

For a few days to a week afterward your skin will feel dry and will likely flake or peel. I want to be clear that this is the process working, not a side effect to be endured. As the damaged outer layers shed, the fresher skin underneath is revealed. It is visible evidence that the regeneration is happening.

Worth Planning For

The peeling is predictable, so it is easy to work around. Tell me what is on your calendar and we will time your treatment so the shedding happens on a quiet week rather than the week of an event.

What Happens After

The timeline is worth understanding, because it is different from what most treatments offer.

You will notice the first improvements within the first couple of weeks, as the skin starts to look fresher and clearer. But the substantial change unfolds over months. Collagen remodeling and new tissue formation continue for up to 24 months after a single treatment.

That is the opposite of a treatment that peaks immediately and fades. With NeoGen you are investing in your skin's actual structure, so the improvement tends to hold, because you have changed something real rather than masked it.

Building a Series

Many people do best with a series of treatments spaced deliberately rather than a single session. That is what my PlasmaFecta™ protocol is built around. It runs in three phases:

  1. Prime the skin so it is in the best possible condition to respond
  2. Deliver the transformative NeoGen treatment at full effect
  3. Maintain and strengthen the result over the following months

Each phase builds on the one before it, and the spacing gives your skin the time it needs to heal and regenerate between sessions. Rushing that spacing does not speed up the result, it just asks your skin to do two jobs at once.

Is NeoGen Right for You

If your concerns are fine lines, deeper wrinkles, loose or crepey skin, uneven texture, sunspots, acne scars, or heavy eyelid skin, it is worth a conversation. It is also safe across all skin tones, which matters because several energy-based treatments carry more risk on deeper skin.

The only way to know for certain is to come in. I will look at your skin, listen to what is actually bothering you, and tell you honestly whether NeoGen is the right choice or whether something else on the menu would serve you better. I would rather send you to a treatment that fits than sell you one that does not.

A Different Approach to Aging Well

The skin care industry sells quick fixes. A cream that promises to erase lines overnight. An injection that smooths one area for a season. Both have a legitimate place, and I use injectables myself. But neither one addresses the underlying issue, which is the health and resilience of the skin itself.

NeoGen works from a different starting point. It treats your skin as a living system with a remarkable capacity to repair itself, and it supplies the stimulus that capacity needs to switch on.

Choosing resurfacing for health rather than for appearance alone is a decision about how you want to age. You are saying you want skin that not only looks better but functions better. That is worth the months in between, and it is worth the week of peeling that comes with it.

Your skin has a real ability to heal itself. Sometimes it just needs the right support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Plasma energy is not absorbed by pigment the way light-based energy is, so it does not carry the same risk profile on deeper skin tones. I still assess every face individually and choose the energy level accordingly.

Between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on how much area is being treated. Your first appointment runs longer because we spend real time on the consultation before anything else.

Expect dryness and flaking for a few days up to about a week. The exact amount depends on the energy level we use. It is part of the process rather than a complication, and it is predictable enough to plan around.

Within the first couple of weeks your skin will look fresher and clearer. The structural improvement builds gradually from there and keeps developing for months.

Collagen remodeling continues for up to 24 months after a treatment. Because you have changed the skin's structure rather than its surface, the improvement holds far longer than a treatment that works only on appearance.

Some people get what they want from a single high-energy treatment. Others do better with a planned series, which is what the PlasmaFecta™ protocol is for. I will give you a straight answer at your consultation rather than a package.

You will feel heat during the treatment. I use numbing beforehand and adjust the energy to keep you comfortable. Most people describe it as very manageable, and higher energy settings feel more intense than lower ones.

A laser targets a specific chromophore such as pigment or water, and ablative lasers remove the outer layer entirely. NeoGen delivers plasma energy that heats tissue uniformly and leaves the surface intact to protect the skin while it rebuilds underneath.

Often, yes. NeoGen pairs well with injectables and with a proper home routine, and peels or facials can maintain your skin between sessions. The timing and order matter, so we plan it rather than stacking treatments at random.
